Additional Information
Water Conservation: There are two rainwater tanks under the house with a total capacity of 4500 litres. These supply the toilets, laundry, dishwasher, one rear garden tap and all hot water. The water is collected and filtered through three stages the final one being 0.4 mm. So when the tanks are full you can have free spas to your hearts content! Stormwater overflow is piped to a soakage pit in the back yard and thereby returned to the aquifer. No storm water is wasted by piping to the street in this high tech. water conservation system designed by a water conservation expert.
Solar Hot Water: The solar panels are connected to a roof mounted Beasley HWS. In normal usage, from October to March no electric back up heating is required. The Beasley HWS is equipped with a special feature that enables connection to the Slow Combustion Heater. If the heater is running for most of the time throughout winter, which is how it performs to its best design efficiency and heats the whole house, the water is heated and once again minimal electrical back up heating is required. In case of high quantity hot water usage, for example if guests stay over, the HWS is equipped with a boost button which will heat the entire contents on the cheaper electricity tariff at any time of day.
Heating & Cooling: Heating is provided by a Eureka Onyx Slow Combustion Heater. This heater was custom built and includes a rear downward facing duct so hot air is blown both into the upstairs areas and into the family room down stairs. Additionally there is a warm air transfer system with ducting and a blower which transfers warm air from the family room into the two downstairs bedrooms.
Cooling is provided by a Bonaire ducted evaporative cooler. This cools the entire house with ducts upstairs. Cool air flows down the stairwell into the downstairs area of the house. The downstairs area is naturally cooler anyway because it is both protected from direct sunlight and is in contact with the earth providing a more stable year round temperature profile.
