An architect's own home is among the rarest and most personal expressions of architectural design. Created in 1960 by acclaimed architect and Sydney School pioneer Ian McKay as his family residence and studio, McKay House offers an exceptional opportunity to own a piece of Australian architectural history.
Influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's organic modernist principles, the home is a beautiful composition of sheltering eaves, richly textured bagged brick walls and distinctive grey brick floors. Thoughtful northern orientation and generous glazing welcome winter sunlight, while the broad eaves provide shade in summer. Two open fireplaces add warmth and intimacy to the light-filled interiors.
Privately positioned on approximately 1,242sqm, the residence presents three bedrooms and a large study with fourth bedroom or second living area potential, idyllic outdoor entertaining spaces, child-friendly level lawns and parking for three cars, all within walking distance of Wahroonga village, the railway station, Knox Grammar and Abbotsleigh.
