Never before offered to the market, this extraordinary four-bedroom, four-bathroom residence sits within the historic Eastern Road School (c. 1877), its garden-wrapped privacy and light-filled interiors creating a rare haven on the edge of the city. One of only five private dwellings behind the original brick façade, with exclusive street frontage, it delivers an unexpected quiet and beauty, the sense of a hidden and private world unfolding from the moment you arrive.
A broad entry hall introduces a series of connected living spaces, culminating in the family room where 5.5-metre timber lined ceilings rise above and a north-facing, paved courtyard floods the interior with natural light. The well-appointed kitchen is centrally located, accompanied by a formal living room and a spacious flexible study/sitting room or fourth bedroom, all of which offer garden views and access to the outdoors. The main suite extends from this level, opening through French doors to a patio framed by established plantings and featuring a marble-detailed ensuite with walk-in robe. Upstairs, two generously scaled bedrooms each enjoy Italian marble ensuites beneath the soaring roofline, with sunlight and glimpses of green filtering from above. Extensive built-in storage features within every room, with an expansive attic offering potential for floor plan growth, plus a dual-level cellar, fourth bathroom, and a European laundry.
Enviably positioned within walking distance of trams, ANZAC Station, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Albert Park Lake, Melbourne’s arts and dining precincts, Clarendon Street, South Melbourne Market and leading schools, including Melbourne Grammar, it combines city proximity with uncommon privacy. Hydronic heating, split-system air conditioning, hardwood floors, alarm system, and secure off-street parking for two vehicles add undeniable modern comfort to a home that feels both special and deeply liveable, enriched by an unmistakable sense of magic.
