J.T McKittrick was the first mayor of the municipality known as South Grafton.
He was a successful businessman and pioneer in the trades of wharfing, carrying, bulk stores and retailing and eventually ran stores in Coffs Harbour, Coramba & Bucca Creek.
The fruits of his labours saw the construction of his stately family home completed in approximately 1898. You can feel the ambience of businessmen sitting under the 5m ceilings in the parlour, warming themselves by the fire and projecting the growth of the Clarence Valley into the town it is today. Children were definitely seen and not heard here with a choice of 10 bedrooms and even today a block size of 1514m2 is still available.
Mr McKittrick did not exclude any additions with tessellated tiling, filigree additions throughout, massive feature casement windows, 300mm skirting, feature architraving and detailing, cedar staircase, staff staircase, choice of fireplaces and 5 inch flooring.
The home now fronts the Pacific Highway in a 50km zone, and is situated on an elevated site overlooking rural surrounds. The zoning is flexible here and we are musing the idea of a B&B or guesthouse, Boutique Hotel, Function Centre or the like.
The property needs to be inspected to be appreciated, you will foresee the potential of your hardwork and at the end of the project be the owner of one of Country NSW exclusive residences.
