Designed as I was by the renowned draftsman Russell Goode—timber-lined cathedral ceilings with exposed American Oregon beams, light and airy, with generous rooms and a glorious sea view. My designer is known for the unusual and although I am a two-storey house, I am split over six levels. To add interest, my floor plan has an angle in it, and one can view the downstairs lounge from the upstairs lounge.
Yes, there are two lounges, three well-sized bedrooms and a study as well as an eating area adjacent to the kitchen. The master has an en suite, just refurbished in the modern style, but its unique feature is the wardrobe my current owner designed using a Federation leadlight door. Better still, one can lie in bed and watch the waves crash over Cape Woolamai.
Did I mention the view? I’m not sure what you’ll notice first when you arrive in the upstairs lounge—the view to the south over Bass Straight and east over the farmland to Cape Woolamai or the brand-new oak floating timber floor. Both are stunning. My current owner spent many a relaxing day perched in her eyrie. On a good day, one can see as far as Wonthaggi, but Cape Woolamai and San Remo are always there. At sunset, it looks like San Remo is on fire as the sun reflects on the windows. And as for watching a lightning show—wow.
My hardwood floors have just been polished and gleam like new. New carpet in the bedrooms. My owner wanted my new friends to enjoy me, so the carpet is pure wool, and all the light fixtures are new and contemporary. I have two companion trees whose dappled light plays in the house and whose shade is invaluable in summer. If you love me but not my companion trees, I am not the house for you as they will be registered on the Shire significant tree register when it opens.
My kitchen, main bathroom and laundry are still serviceable, but if my new friends are inclined, an update will fulfill my dreams. To that end, my owner has paid a deposit on the cabinetry and has all the appliances and bathroom fixtures, including toilets, which are for sale by negotiation along with Council approved plans for an upstairs deck, garage and downstairs back deck. You won’t be disappointed when you see the pictures of the bath and basins or the quality of the appliances.
I’ll be honest, I have one small issue—the tap under the laundry trough has been leaking and there is some repair work n eeded. The cupboard floor is rotten but the floor under is sound. It won’t matter if you take up the generous offer of the paid deposit. However, I was built by one of the best builders of the day, Greg Pugh, may he rest in peace, and I am as solid as the day I was built. My roof, gutters and stumps are all in good condition. Sure, the external windows could do with a lick of varnish, but the cedar has weathered to that lovely coastal silver.
But to understand why I am truly an individual, please watch the video. The new drone did a fabulous job. My owner drowned the last one.
