120-122 Lawson Street, Redfern

An impressive rebuilt residence, 9 meters wide, offering rear lane access and garaging for 4 cars plus ample storage or workshop space. Originally built as 2 grand brick terrace homes in the late 19th century and later converted to a commercial building and garage in the 1930s. On acquiring the rundown property in 2011, our client embarked on planning for a large family-sized residence with ample parking, a workshop to take machinery for carpentry and enough space for a growing family to enjoy. Working with architect Ashkan Mostaghim and Peter Reeve of CRD Design, with gardens by Linda Ross of Linda Ross Gardens, a unique family residence has been created in this thriving hub on the border of Redfern and Chippendale. Privacy is ensured with a discreet street frontage, and light-filled interiors from the north-facing aspect; soaring gums and blue sky provide a feeling of suburban tranquillity in the inner city. Accommodation comprises 5 generous-sized bedrooms, the main bedroom on its own level with dressing room and ensuite. In addition to the bedrooms, a study overlooks the living areas. Flowing indoor entertaining is anchored by a kitchen centred nicely to engage with guests, featuring a long marble island and butler's pantry. A north-facing outdoor terrace, bathed in sunlight, completes the main living level. The garaging level provides for a generous-sized laundry room with toilet, storage or workshop, and easy parking for 4 cars fully enclosed by the garage.
