The owners have tastefully and sympathetically renovated this home to maximise comfort without losing the gorgeous character of this country cottage. Convict built around 1830, the house sits on a huge allotment of approx. 1536m2 and was the original school for Oatlands so is steeped in history.
A clever re-working of the layout means there are now two double bedrooms; a lounge room; a very modern bathroom; and a combined kitchen (with all modern appliances), dining and sitting room. The laundry is just outside the back door and has a second toilet plus there is a ‘mud room’ to kick off your boots and hang your coats.
Renovations have also included re-wiring, re-plumbing and new timber flooring in the sitting room and kitchen. The house is well insulated and there is an electric heater inset into the fireplace in the lounge and a wood heater in the sitting room.
The house is surrounded by established gardens which include a fantastic vegetable area, fruit trees, herb beds and ornamentals. There is also a huge chook run, a single carport and a small garden shed. The owners had pre-approval for a 20m X 5.5m shed as well. Excavations have revealed the original Sandstone well for the property which would make a beautiful garden feature.
A gentle stroll from the house will take you to the Oatlands District School, the medical centre, shops, cafes and even Lake Dulverton. Hobart is just over an hours drive away and the major shopping centres of Sorell and Glenorchy are even closer.
