The driveway winds between towering trees, sunlight flickering through their branches as you climb towards the crest of Yarra Hill. At the top, a private world unfolds — an acre of history and refinement, once part of the storied estate where Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent time in Australia. The grand mansion where that royal visited still stands just beyond the boundary, a quiet reminder of the property’s exceptional pedigree. Here, history lingers in the air — not as nostalgia, but as a promise of rarity.
Built in 1999 with an artisan’s eye for scale and proportion, the residence exudes quiet confidence. The foyer sets a stately tone — herringbone hardwood floors, high ceilings, intricate cornices and richly patterned wallpapers announcing the home’s refined craftsmanship.
The formal lounge and dining rooms command attention. They’re spaces of true gravitas — an open fire flickers beneath a classic mantle, light dances from crystal chandeliers, and generous windows draw the eye to dual outlooks: the shimmering pool precinct on one side and sculpted gardens on the other. Every detail, from drapery to joinery, speaks of enduring quality and calm elegance. These are rooms designed not only for entertaining, but for moments of quiet theatre.
The study offers an elegant counterpoint — fitted cabinetry, quality carpet, and tailored drapery. It’s a tranquil and sophisticated space that enjoys a northern eastern outlook across manicured lawns and structured greenery.
Then, the home opens up — and the sense of space truly takes over. The vast casual living precinct stretches across the residence, an expansive sweep of light and volume that draws the outdoors in. Here, polished hardwood floors meet walls of windows and French doors that spill onto the entertaining terrace. Beautifully fitted joinery and a gas log fire set beneath a stone mantle anchor the space, while multiple living and dining zones allow for effortless family life and grand scale entertaining alike.
At the centre, the kitchen shines — a chef’s domain designed for both function and flair. A walk-in pantry, Asko dishwasher, Ilve 900 mm gas cooker, stainless splashback and range, exquisite cabinetry, stone benchtops, and a generous island bench crowned by sculptural lighting all combine in perfect balance. Every angle captures the greenery beyond, so even in the heart of the home, nature remains part of the experience.
Step outside and the artistry continues. The gardens and pool— designed by Scott Wynd and Darin Bradbury of MINT Design, whose visionary landscapes have earned multiple top honours at the Chelsea Flower Show — are a masterwork in living form. Sweeping lawns unfold into intimate garden rooms; mature trees shelter a romantic rotunda; water trickles softly from a pond and feature fountain; and the plant palette shifts with the seasons, offering constant texture and colour. A solar-heated pool and spa sit within a grand paved terrace surrounded by lush lawns and outdoor audio — the perfect setting for long summer days and evenings under the stars. Secure sheds and sculptural elements complete the landscape with practical artistry.
The master suite carries the same quiet sense of luxury — quality carpets, elegant drapes, a fitted walk-in robe and a beautiful ensuite with frameless shower and refined finishes. Three further family bedrooms, a fresh bathroom, gas ducted heating, evaporative cooling and panel Nobo heaters ensure comfort throughout. Under-house storage and a secure garage add everyday ease.
Perfectly positioned at the top of Yarra Hill Close, this home enjoys rare privacy and elevation with city skyline views while remaining beautifully connected. The Yarra River meanders just moments away, with Westerfolds Park stretching along the opposite bank — a haven for walking, cycling and outdoor leisure. Leading schools, boutique shopping and cafés are all within easy reach, while Rosehill Road offers direct, congestion-free access to Heidelberg and beyond without the need to navigate Fitzsimons Lane. It’s a location that delivers the best of both worlds — tranquil, green and utterly convenient. This is more than a home — it’s a statement of legacy, design and landscape mastery. With royal history behind it and award-winning gardens embracing it, every detail speaks to a life well lived, and beautifully so.
