Set on a generous 4,500m² allotment in Inverleigh, this exceptional strawbale residence offers a rare blend of architectural craftsmanship, sustainability and contemporary country living. Designed and built by respected local builders SO’R Constructions, the home was completed in mid-2023 and delivers outstanding material integrity and thoughtful passive design across approximately 222.8m² of living space plus a 44.8m² garage.
Oriented to maximise northern light and year-round comfort, the strawbale construction provides remarkable thermal and acoustic performance, with breathable clay and lime renders enhancing indoor air quality, durability and fire resistance. Deep window reveals, burnished concrete floors and refined timber detailing—including Tasmanian oak, Blackbutt and Cypress pine—highlight the quality and honesty of the build. Double-glazed hardwood windows and clerestory openings promote natural ventilation and cross-flow.
The all-electric kitchen combines sustainability with style, featuring Tasmanian oak cabinetry, recycled Blackbutt benchtops and Melbourne-made recycled glass surfaces, alongside a walk-in pantry with naturally vented cool store. Energy efficiency continues throughout with a Reclaim heat pump hot water system, minimal heating and cooling requirements, a wood combustion heater and high-efficiency split systems.
Outdoor features include FSC-certified decking, a vine-covered pergola, 25,000L rainwater storage, a well-designed wastewater system and low-maintenance, drought-conscious landscaping. An impressive 8m x 14m shed houses a 6kW solar system with battery-ready inverter, supporting the home’s all-electric operation and strong energy rating.
Recognised as part of the 2023 Sustainable House Day, this home is a standout example of healthy, low-impact living—offering comfort, efficiency and connection to nature, just moments from Inverleigh’s vibrant village community.
