36 Walbundry Avenue FERNTREE GULLY VIC

Nestled into the hillside alongside National Park, this sprawling seven-bedroom home is a beautiful reminder that you really can have it all. Towering gums frame the windows like a gallery of living art, echidnas, wallabies, deer and birdlife are known to wander through, and the elevated outlook sweeps across the city to Port Phillip Bay, where ships shimmer in the distance and the Heads appear on a clear day. Yet for all this extraordinary peace and privacy, the village, cafés, shops and train station are just a kilometre’s walk away. So close to everything, yet a world away from it all. Designed to make the most of its remarkable setting, the split-level home offers generous proportions and exceptional flexibility for large or multigenerational families. Refreshed with new flooring and paint, the interiors feel bright and welcoming, with high ceilings, clerestory windows and vast expanses of glass drawing the landscape inside. The open-plan kitchen, meals and living domain is a wonderfully social space, warmed by a wood fire on cooler evenings and framed by spellbinding, ever-changing views. Entertaining is something of a specialty here. An additional living zone sits alongside the main family area, and both open to a substantial all-weather deck. Fully covered and served directly from the kitchen, it’s a brilliant extension of the home, where birthdays, milestone celebrations and gatherings with friends can spill effortlessly between indoors and out. There’s room for everyone to find their favourite spot, while the treetops and fiery sunsets create a setting no amount of decorating could ever compete with. The floorplan is cleverly arranged across distinct levels, giving everyone their own space without losing that sense of connection. The main bedroom is complete with a private balcony, walk-in robe and ensuite, while an upper wing offers further bedrooms, a bathroom and a living zone with built-in study space. Downstairs, a substantial rumpus and two additional bedrooms open up exciting possibilities for teenagers, adult children or extended family, with scope to adapt the layout for more independent living. Outside, terraced gardens provide surprisingly usable, flat pockets for play, complete with a cubby house and swings, while the adjoining forest feels like an endless natural backyard alive with the sights and sounds of the bush. Add exceptional off-street parking for caravans, boats and multiple vehicles, and this is a home that embraces the adventurous hills lifestyle while welcoming every generation.
