Built circa 1887 for prominent Brisbane journalist Walter Morley, this landmark residence occupies an impressive 1,662sqm corner allotment, with a rich history of distinguished residents, grand social occasions and sporting heritage. Beautifully restored, the locally heritage-listed estate retains an elegance and architectural character exceptionally difficult to replicate today. Wide traditional verandahs frame interiors rich in period detail, where soaring ceilings, original polished timber floors, decorative joinery, VJ walls and exquisite fireplaces celebrate the home's nineteenth-century origins. Elegant lounge and dining rooms are connected yet individually defined, with beautiful arched windows and French doors opening to the surrounding verandahs. Classic in its design yet striking in its simplicity, the renovated kitchen features Carrara marble, immaculate two-pack cabinetry, premium Miele appliances and a substantial island for casual dining. A broad servery window opens to the covered entertaining deck, while a separate rear balcony offers a more intimate setting overlooking the tennis court. Magnificent north-east-facing wraparound verandahs extend to an expansive covered entertaining deck overlooking manicured lawns, mature trees and a beautiful swimming pool. Stone paving, a decorative arbour and garden retreats provide further places to relax, while the historic north-south grass tennis court adds an exceptional recreational dimension. Established by 1905 by the original owner, an avid tennis enthusiast, the court was once used by the Indooroopilly Lawn Tennis Club. Floraville's grounds have also welcomed generations of Brisbane society for garden parties, weddings and charitable gatherings. Among its distinguished former residents was Dr Otto Nothling, an accomplished physician who represented Australia in both cricket and rugby union. Nothling famously replaced Donald Bradman in the Australian Test team in 1928, with local stories suggesting that Bradman himself may have once played on Floraville’s tennis court. Four bedrooms occupy separate wings, including a private parents' retreat with an expansive dressing room, ensuite and verandah access. Three additional bedrooms are complemented by an enclosed sunroom, dedicated study areas and a renovated family bathroom with a freestanding bath and marble vanity. A separate powder room caters to guests, while a casual media room overlooks the tennis court. Extensive lower-level storage and laundry accompany a double carport and additional off-street parking. Additional improvements include ducted air conditioning, security and electrical upgrades, complementing the home's treasured original features. Celebrated for its magnificent tree canopy and grand character homes, Laurel Avenue is among Brisbane's most admired residential streets. The Brisbane River and parklands are nearby, along with Graceville's vibrant village cafés, restaurants and boutique shopping. Chelmer railway station provides convenient city connections, while esteemed schools including St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School and St Peter's Lutheran College are within easy reach.
