A landmark of Modernist architecture, ‘Clarke House’ - designed in 1956 by renowned architect Jack Clarke as his own residence - stands as a significant example of mid-century innovation. Oriented to the north and drenched in natural light, this unique home embodies the Modernist ideals of purposeful zoning, harmony with nature, and enduring liveability.
The home remains one of Beaumaris’ most authentic architectural contributions - its original vision intact through thoughtful preservation and sympathetic additions by Clarke himself.
Set within easy-care gardens, a sculptural timber land bridge introduces the striking facade, leading to a bold pivot entry and interiors that immediately captivate with their sense of space, clarity and warmth.
Multiple sun-filled living areas unfold across the ground level, each enjoying a northerly aspect - among them, a formal living and dining zone with open fireplace, a tranquil sitting room extending to an elevated entertaining deck, and a sunken lounge with built-in window seating - creating a conversation pit ideal for intimate gatherings. A whimsical ladder ascends to a loft-style reading nook capturing leafy garden vistas, adding creativity and charm.
A casual meals area flows to the sleek stone-topped kitchen, where Westinghouse induction cooktop, Bosch oven and dishwasher and bespoke joinery blend style with everyday functionality.
Flexibility reigns with a fifth bedroom or additional living space opening to the deck - accompanied by three further robed bedrooms, and a luxurious twin-vanity family bathroom.
Lush, established gardens create a private and picturesque backdrop to daily living - perfect for entertaining, play, or quiet retreat.
Rising via a spectacular spiral staircase, the parents' retreat is an indulgent space bathed in northern light, featuring a serene master bedroom, separate sitting area, luxurious ensuite, and a private sauna - delivering restorative calm with alluring flair.
Impeccably presented and sympathetic to Clarke’s original vision, the home retains key elements of the Modernist idiom, including its asymmetrical shallow-pitched roof, expansive glazing, timber lined walls and ceilings, and distinctive recessed entry.
Modern comforts include a generous laundry with excellent storage, ducted heating, a separate WC and a double carport with additional storage.
The privileged location is just 50 metres from the beach, and just moments from Banksia Reserve, the Concourse, local primary schools, sports fields and bus services - plus zoning for Beaumaris Secondary College and Mentone Girls’ Secondary College - underscoring its family appeal.
