One of the earliest colony areas in Victoria, Avenel was settled in 1838 with this Historic miners cottage believed to be built around the 1860s. Not claiming that Ned Kelly ever stood on this verandah but we do know that an eleven year old Ned won a bravery award when he rescued young Richard Shelton from Hughes Creek only 300 meters away. The two bedroom home is now in very basic condition and would need a fastidious renovator to restore its former glory or take advantage of this recently subdivided 880m2 with all Avenel services connected, town water, electricity and sewerage.
